about

I wrote this over a year ago. When you're queer and fall hard for someone of the same gender for the first time and shit don't work out, it hurts A LOT. Then sometimes you wonder if you're not good enough, you start comparing yourself to that person and the person they start dating shortly after you. I wrote this to process those feelings. And a year later, I'm glad that I don't feel these feelings anymore and know that I was always enough, she was just the wrong person.

This song and writing this whole album was extremely therapeutic, and for anyone who goes through their first queer heartbreak, especially with someone who has more privileges than you, especially when past traumas, abandonment issues, and other bad relationship memories get triggered, I hope y'all can relate!

Also healing is nonlinear, so is grief, and that's okay!

lyrics

I should've known
We weren't a fit
Yeah
Yeah
You're so out of my league, it's crazy
You can have anyone, so why settle for me?
I probably have traumas you don't
My mind's been places yours won't
And even though I'm working, working
A finished product's probably more deserving of you

You probably wanted someone on your level
Someone who could handle where you're at
I tried to be that
But with these knives still in my back, I couldn't
I'll never compare to you
I'll never compare to you
And if you don't want me
Then who will if you're the best that I could do

You're pretty in a way that I'll never be
And it was silly to think I could compete
Or measure up
To what you'd want and need
You probably wanted more confidence
More bravery
More laidbackness
With few to no consequences
With the way my life been set up
I go all in
But you quit
There was never a win-win for this

You probably wanted someone on your level
Someone who could handle where you're at
I tried to be that
But with these knives still in my back, I couldn't

I'll never compare to you
I'll never compare to you
I guess she compares to you
I guess she's enough for you
